Galaxy S4 Mini coming with Snapdragon S4 Plus and 6MP camera

Samsung

Last week there appeared a number of pictures of the Galaxy S4 Mini, but Samsung still seems to think that it isn’t the right time to announce the smaller and cheaper version of their flagship phone, the Galaxy S4. The leaked images appeared on the Chinese Twitter alternative Weibo, although we couldn’t find any information about the specifications of the smartphone, up till now because we discovered that the Galaxy S4 Mini (GT-I9210) was benchmarked earlier this week.

In April we already discovered the UAProf of the Galaxy S4 Mini, which confirmed that the resolution of 960 x 540 pixels was quite a bit lower compared to the 1080p display of the Galaxy S4 Mini. The benchmark that appeared today confirms the 960 x 540 resolution of the display, but it also shows us that Samsung again hasn’t make use of their own Exynos line of processors. The Galaxy S4 Mini features a 28nm 1.7GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 with a Adreno 305 GPU, which also confirms that Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and Wi-Fi 802.11n (2.4/5GHz) is available as well, although the name “serrano3g” suggests that LTE connectivity will not be supported. We do however expect that the GT-I9195 will support LTE connectivity.

Just like the other mid-range and high-end Galaxy devices that were released earlier this years it is running Android 4.2.2 with Samsung’s own TouchWiz interface. It isn’t exactly clear what camera can be found on the back of the Galaxy S4 Mini, but it will likely be a 6-megapixel camera (3264×1836 pixels) after seeing various pictures on Picasa that were shot with the Galaxy S4 Mini.

Update: We changed our mind on the camera, because the resolution is probably lowered because of the 16:9 display, so it isn’t showing any black bars. Don’t worry and expect a 8-megapixel on the back.
