Acer’s 8.1-inch Iconia W3 with Windows 8 hits FCC

At the beginning of the month we saw the leak of the first 8.1-inch Windows 8 tablet from Acer; the Acer Iconia W3 (810). During a Acer press event in New York we surprisingly didn’t hear a thing about the unannounced tablet, although it seems that the company will announce and launch the tablet this month. A new FCC filing has revealed that the Acer Iconia is ready to hit the market.

The smaller Windows 8 tablet features a 1.8Ghz dual-core Intel Atom Z2760 processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of memory, USB, HDMI, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, 2-megapixel camera (front), 2-megapixel camera (back), 3500mAh battery (8 hours), Bluetooth 4.0 and a CrystalBrite IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. It seems that device will run on Windows 8, which means that all desktop applications should work well on the device.

We expect that this won’t be the only smaller Windows 8 tablet that we will see this year. Earlier this year Microsft already lowered its certification specifications to allow manufacturers to make cheaper and smaller Windows 8 tablets. Acer’s Iconia W3 is undoubtedly going to have a hard time competing with the cheaper Google/LG Nexus 7 and the iPad Mini from Apple. Are you interested in buying one?
